The official kick-off to the 2011 Calgary Stampede & Exhibition begins this Friday July 8th. And if you are attending the parade in the heart of downtown, these are the times you should be aware of.
- 7:30 a.m -Prelude entertainment which includes clown acts, musical entertainment, and mascots, begins at 7:30 a.m along the parade route.
- 8:55 a.m. - The main Parade begins at the start of the parade route on 6th Ave SE. and then reaches the Calgary Tower on 9th Ave S.W. around 9:30 a.m. where it will be broadcast live on CBC beginning @ 8am.. So please note, the parade will begin at different times along the route
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PARADE:
- This year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William & Kate, will be taking part in the parade as they drive from the END of the parade route to the START.. where the parade will then begin. The Royals will hit the parade route at 8:30 a.m. All you folks looking to catch a glimpse of the royal newlyweds can rest assured that you’ll be in prime viewing seats from anywhere along the parade route along 6th and 9th avenues southwest.
- The Parade Marshal is Rick Hansen - Canada's man in moton.
- The Parade has about 167 entrants this year, over 3000 people taking part, and showcasing over 750 horses.
