It looks like there has been a major shake up on American Idol within the past 24 hours. Ellen DeGeneres released a statement Thursday announcing her exit from Idol and today according to online reports, Kara DioGuardi was reportedly fired.
So what's happening with American Idol? Well the latest news coming from Hollywood is that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have apparently been brought on to replace them. Lopez people apparently approached Idol producers months ago about joining the show, and a deal was secretly reached earlier this week. Tyler is reportedly still in negotiations, but it seems very likely that he'll be joining the show for Season 10. It also looks like producers are going back to a three-judge format.
So why did Ellen leave? "A couple months ago, I let FOX and the American Idol producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me," the comedian said, as per People. "I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for."
She continued, "I also realized this season that, while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol, and I am very grateful for the year I had; I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be."
So it looks like Randy Jackson will be the only returning judge. We'll just have to see how American Idol fans handle the judge panel shake up. As for me....I like!
